Inspired by Lubec

Art at Water Street Tavern & Inn

When you visit Water Street Tavern & Inn, much of the art you see on our walls was created by artists from Lubec and the surrounding area. This coastal community has long attracted creative people inspired by the sea, the light, and the character of Downeast Maine. If a particular work catches your eye, please let us know—we would be happy to help you learn more about the artist and whether the piece is available for purchase.

Shawn Costello

Impressions That Convey Emotion and the Spirit Within

Shawn Costello lives in Western Pennsylvania. Illustrations, portraiture, and landscape paintings are on the easel at different times. In her portraits, Shawn seeks to capture an impression that conveys emotion and the spirit within. The same is true of her landscape paintings. The places she paints are often ones that tell a story or have a human element.

Shawn graduated from the Maryland Institute of Art with a BFA and received her master’s degree in Art Education from Towson University near Baltimore.

Shawn has taught art at all grade levels, including college and K–12. In spring 2013, she received the HOWIE Award, the Howard County Outstanding Arts Educator award, in a competition that represents all of the arts: music, dance, theater, and fine arts from colleges, public and private schools, as well as independent community art centers in Howard County.
