Water Street Tavern Inn & B&B ~ Lubec, Maine
Jim and Judy Heyer Discover Lubec
We first discovered the peace and serenity of Lubec, Maine while on vacation in 2001. That same year we bought a cottage overlooking Johnson's Bay, renovated it with love and attention and began renting the cottage seasonally the summer of 2002. We painted it cobalt blue and call it "Blue Heaven".
Having not learned our lesson yet, we worried and fretted over the condition of an historic waterfront building in downtown Lubec directly on the water. With the desire of saving the building from further wreck and ruin, we purchased the building with the idea of "just making it safe, sound and secure". Two and a half years later and after an "extreme makeover", the doors of the Water Street Tavern & Inn opened for business June 10th of 2010. The results of our efforts are far from our original intention, but much more representative of what we felt in our hearts about the town, townspeople, and the beautiful old building.
With SIX seasons now under our belt we are proud of the accomplishments of our crew and staff. We have received many accolades to our pleasure and helpful criticism to help us adjust and grow. We continue a philosophy of dynamic and flexible operation adhering to quality and customer satisfaction as a principle and guideline. Most of the time we are spot on and consistent. Like everything else, we sometimes have a hiccup. We prosper from consistency and make course corrections from hiccups.
A good friend who knows has said "Go everywhere and eat everything". Thank you Simon and Sybil!
With love, Jim and Judy
About the Tavern Restaurant
Our Tavern menu changes daily, featuring creative entrees as well as traditional Down East fare. We are committed to promoting the DownEast economy by buying seafood and produce from local sources and providing jobs to local residents. With that said we strive to provide an atmosphere of a warm, friendly and casual dining experience with a great menu and Outstanding wine list both which are reasonably priced.
The Water Street Tavern is known as the “gathering place of Lubec”, where friends, family, and travelers meet. We planned the Tavern atmosphere and menu to be as inviting to the local lobstermen seeking a good meal as it is to a couple from the "Big City" on their honeymoon.
